The past year whizzed by at the speed of light. Our team did some amazing work in the last 12 months and I am proud to present some of the challenging cases that we dealt with.
- General Visitor Visa β lack of evidence β partner liable for deportation β this was our first case of 2025. We took over this application on 6 January 2025, when INZ had raised concerns that the applicant did not provide sufficient evidence of having family ties, lawful purpose to visit New Zealand, and ties in their home country. Β The applicantβs partner was also liable for deportation (suspended) and hence not able to sponsor their application. Since then, we have assisted the partner in getting their deportation liability cancelled, and the applicant with a partnership-based work visa.
- Work Visa β partnership β partner convicted of family violence β We had assisted this client with their initial visa to come to live with their partner. Upon applying for a work visa, INZ informed that the partner had a prior conviction of assault on a family member. We assisted them with getting a character waiver and hence being able to support their partnerβs partnership-based work application.
- Student Visa β multiple declines β This client previously had two student visa declines through an agency in India. They signed up with us and we submitted another student visa application. We also recommended them to change their course and institute and recommended them something more suitable for their profile. INZ declined their application for a third time and also declined our complaint against the declined application. We submitted a second complaint, where INZ not only apologized to the client but also accepted our complaint and reopened the application. A new CO was allocated and they raised two further document requests before finally approving the application.
- Section 61 β this applicant did not submit a temporary application and became unlawful. They had an active residence application and assumed that INZ will automatically grant them a temporary visa!
- Business Visitor Visas β we assisted the team of a Dubai-based real estate company to come and take part in a property expo in Auckland.
- Deportation Liability Notices β We assisted a few clients to pro-actively inform INZ about their deportation liability and get the process underway. We were able to get these liabilities suspended.
It is successes like these that make it worth to practice as a Licensed Immigration Adviser, because it is the clients stuck in a difficult situation who are usually the most vulnerable and require correct, honest, and accurate advice.
We are looking forward to newer and bigger challenges in 2026!
