For those intending to visit New Zealand to marry their partner who is a citizen or resident, various visa options are available depending on individual circumstances. These include:

  • Important: Starting from 17 June 2024, English translations must be provided for any documents not in English.

Culturally Arranged Marriage Visitor Visa

A 3-month visitor visa is available for those who have recently married a New Zealand citizen through a traditional arranged marriage or plan to marry in New Zealand. This visa allows you to start living with your partner.

  • Length of stay:Β Up to 3 months
  • Processing time:Β 80% within 5 weeks

With this visa, you can come to New Zealand to get married or after getting married overseas. You can also apply for a partnership visa once you live with your partner in New Zealand.

  • If you come to get married in New Zealand, your wedding must take place within 3 months of your arrival.
  • The marriage must be arranged by someone other than you or your partner (such as a family member or a matchmaker) and follow a recognized cultural tradition.
  • If you get married outside New Zealand, you must apply for your visa within 3 months of your wedding.

Culturally Arranged Marriage Visitor Visa | Immigration New Zealand

Visitor VISA

You can stay for up to either 6 months (multiple entry) or 9 months (single entry). People traveling on a passport from some countries must apply for a Visitor Visa to visit New Zealand.

  • Citizens of visa waiver countries can use a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) instead.

With this visa, you can holiday in New Zealand, visit family and friends, and study for up to 3 months. However, you cannot work. You can also include your partner and dependent children in your visa application.

  • The length of stay depends on whether you have a single entry or multiple entry visa.
  • Β We advise travellers not to book any non-refundable travel until after their Visitor Visa is approved.
